Species Name: Aoudad (Ammotragus lervia)

Origin: The Aoudad, also known as Barbary sheep, is native to the mountainous regions of North Africa, particularly Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, but has successfully established populations in various parts of Texas.

Typical Weight: Adult male Aoudad typically weigh between 200-300 pounds (90-136 kg), while females generally weigh around 100-200 pounds (45-90 kg).

Horn Size: Males possess impressive horns that can measure between 28" to 35" inches in length, curling dramatically outward and making for stunning trophies.

Hunting Season: Year-round

  1. Characteristics: Aoudad are distinguished by their robust bodies and long, curved horns. Males have a thick, mane-like ruff of hair around their necks, while females have a more streamlined appearance.

  2. Distinctive Markings: Their coats are typically a sandy to reddish-brown color, with light-colored patches on the face and legs, allowing them to blend seamlessly into rocky environments.
