Addax Hunting

Species Name: Addax (Addax nasomaculatus)

Origin: The Addax originates from the Sahara desert and surrounding arid regions of North Africa.

Typical Weight: Adult Addax can weigh anywhere from 132-275 pounds (60-125 kg) for both males and females.

Horn Size: 27" to 35" inches. Addax possess distinctive spiral horns that make them unique and highly sought after as trophy animals. Both sexes have horns.

Hunting Season: Year-round

Unique Attributes: Addax, also known as the white antelope or screwhorn antelope, are fascinating creatures with several unique attributes:

1. Distinctive Appearance: Addax are easily recognizable by their striking white coats and spiral horns. Their coat changes from brown-gray in winter to nearly white in summer, helping them reflect the desert heat.

2. Remarkable Adaptation: They are exceptionally well adapted to extreme desert environments. Addax can survive without water for long periods, obtaining moisture from plants they consume. Their splayed, rounded hooves allow them to walk easily on sand.

3. Nomadic Behavior: Unlike many territorial antelopes, Addax are nomadic, constantly moving in search of vegetation. This behavior helps them survive in their harsh desert habitat.

4. Unique Social Structure: They typically form small herds of 5 to 20 individuals. The social structure is flexible, with herds often merging or splitting based on environmental conditions.

6. Seasonal Changes: Addax undergo significant physical changes throughout the year. Besides their coat color change, males develop a dark hair tuft on their foreheads during breeding season.

7. Mating Season: Addax can breed year-round, but births usually peak in winter and early spring when conditions are most favorable.
